General Description

This position analyzes Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts (IOLTA) financial data and manages the IOLTA Compliance functions for attorneys and law firms throughout Texas. Under the direction of the Senior Financial Accountant, this position performs a variety of technical accounting functions, manages the student loan repayment assistance program (SLRAP), and assists with fiscal grant compliance reviews.

Primary Functions

  • Responsible for the IOLTA program database, including review of interest rates, accounts, banks, law firms, and attorneys.
  • Analyzes, compiles, and enters detailed financial data from IOLTA bank reports into for the IOLTA program database, including resolving discrepancies on bank reports, validating interest rates paid by banks, and verifying mathematical integrity of bank reports and interest revenue.
  • Creates statistical, financial, and other informational reports for managements, board members, grantors, and other stakeholders, while maintaining required confidentiality.
  • Performs accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including processing payments, maintaining vendor master list, overseeing cash receipt and bank deposit processes, and preparing related reports.
  • Provides technical expertise to attorneys and law firms by assisting and reviewing their IOLTAs to ensure the accounts are properly set up at banks.
  • Provides technical expertise to banks, law firms, and attorneys for common IOLTA issues, including interest rate variances, interest remittance discrepancies, and setting up new accounts.
  • Responsible for student loan repayment assistance program, from application review to on-going monitoring to quarterly payments.
  • Assists with fiscal reviews to ensure grant compliance and that expenditures are allowable according to grant agreement.
  • Provides assistance with overall office operations as needed.
  • Performs other responsibilities as required.

Position Requirements

  • Two years’ experience in a professional environment that requires accurate numerical detail work required.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting processes, e.g. accounts payable and deposits. 
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office products required, particularly Excel.
  • Two-year degree required, four-year degree preferred.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills required.
  • Must be well-organized, a self-starter, and able to complete multiple tasks in a timely and independent manner.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and written.
