  • General Description

    The Program Officer of the Texas Opportunity & Justice Incubator (TOJI) program is responsible for implementing and managing the day-to-day activities of the TOJI program, a legal incubator program for recently-licensed lawyers to develop innovative, socially conscious law practices providing affordable legal services to low- and modest-income clients. The position involves contact with volunteer lawyers, judges, law school professors, and deans, as well as frequent contact with State Bar departments, committees, members, and the public. Reports directly to the Director of the Texas Opportunity & Justice Incubator program.

    Primary Functions

    1. Manage the full cycle recruitment process including marketing, sourcing, scheduling, evaluating, selecting, and onboarding new member lawyers.
    2. Mentor, advise, and encourage member lawyers to support them in developing their law firms.
    3. Design, implement, and facilitate training and professional development programs for the TOJI program.
    4. Create derivative training and professional development material for broader use.
    5. Develop and implement a TOJI Mentorship program.
    6. Manage ongoing mentoring and support for TOJI program participants, including recruiting and orientating mentors from the legal and professional community.
    7. Collect, track, and monitor member lawyer, law firm, and program data. Design and implement systems and programs using data and metrics to measure sustainability and drive results.
    8. Collaborate with lawyers, judges, court personnel, law schools, legal aid and pro bono providers, as well as state and local bar leaders, to coordinate ongoing TOJI program and statewide justice gap initiatives.
    9. Coordinate and actively participate in all marketing, development, and fundraising efforts for the TOJI program and the Law Practice Management Program.
    10. Contribute to website development for the TOJI program and the Law Practice Management Program.
    11. Answer public inquiries as needed.
    12. Perform other responsibilities as required.

    Position Requirements

    JD required. License to practice law in Texas preferred. A minimum of 3 years of legal experience required, preferably in a solo, small firm, or legal services environment. Experience in law office management and knowledge of modern law office technology preferred. Must be able to write clearly and have excellent communication skills, diplomacy, and discretion. Must have ability to positively influence others’ behavior without direct authority. Should be able to work independently under deadline pressure and effectively manage multiple competing priorities. Occasional travel required.
