General Description

This position provides project coordination for the State Bar’s Legal Access Department and the Texas Access to Justice Commission to support increasing access to justice for low-income Texans.  The position assists with the coordination of large conferences, events, and meetings. In coordination with other staff, develops and implements projects and initiatives. Also, develops, implements, and facilitates communication efforts regarding access to justice issues, including outreach via listservs, social media, and other web-based efforts. Involves frequent contact with State Bar departments, committees, volunteers, and the public.   

Primary Functions

  1. Plans, coordinates and executes State Bar and Commission projects, including events, training, meetings, internships, awards and pro bono support programs.
  2. Coordinates venue logistics; communication and outreach to commissioners, the legal profession and the public for State Bar and Commission projects, as well as setting and adhering to the project budgets.
  3. Assists with curriculum development and coordinates logistics for conferences and training events, including the Poverty Law Conference, an annual fundraising Gala, an annual academy that provides training for young lawyers, and internships that place law students with legal aid organizations.
  4. Facilitates State Bar and Commission communication efforts regarding access to justice issues, including content development for publications, social media, presentations, and fundraising efforts.
  5. Assists with the administration of various supports for legal aid and pro bono attorneys, including the Language Access Fund and malpractice insurance.
  6. Coordinates awards to individuals and organizations that have demonstrated exemplary achievements in access to justice, including handling nominations, facilitating committee meetings to select winners, and coordinating the ordering and presentation of the awards.
  7. Handles meeting logistics for State Bar and Commission-related committees; handles staff and volunteer travel arrangements.
  8. Facilitates development and fundraising efforts of the Commission as directed.
  9. Interfaces with the public via phone and email.
  10. Performs other responsibilities as needed.

Position Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and at least two years related work experience, including administrative experience in an office environment and experience in event coordination and planning is required, including. Must be able to handle multiple projects with a high level of performance, attention to detail, and accuracy. Requires exceptional communication and organizational skills. Requires proficiency with creative suite software, online publication platforms, social media, MS Office, database software, and project management software. Must communicate effectively and maintain confidentiality. Ability to speak Spanish is desirable.  Prior experience with legal aid organizations or a nonprofit is desirable.
