Responsible for coordinating the centralized records request process and advising State Bar staff on legal and policy matters related to the Public Information Act and requests by officers and directors. Advises on and coordinates records management and retention for the agency. Provides general legal assistance to the Legal Counsel’s Office and State Bar staff as needed. Reports to the Chief Legal Counsel.
Requires graduation from an accredited law school with a J.D. degree. Must have a minimum of 3 years of regulatory or administrative law experience. Open records experience required. Requires demonstrated knowledge of the Public Information Act; legal analysis and research; legal principles, practices and proceedings. Knowledge of the Open Meetings Act and experience in agency records retention strongly preferred. Experience with the GovQA platform and Adobe Acrobat Pro strongly preferred. Must be able to work effectively across multiple groups, functional areas, and subject-matter experts. Requires the ability to exercise good judgment in the analysis of legal problems and to prepare sound, clear opinions; efficiently research complex legal issues; and interpret laws and regulations affecting the agency. Must be able to work independently and effectively manage multiple competing priorities. Occasional travel may be required.
